Christian Gil

March 28, 2009
San Andrés Itzapa, Guatemala
Cristian is a polite, respectful, and kind young man who is 16 years old. He lives with his parents and siblings at home. He is in 10th grade and is studying administration and has shown to be responsible and focused on his education. Cristian says what he most likes to do is help by cooking. Sometimes when he has free time, he looks for a job opportunity and has worked as a waiter or a cook as well. And sometimes he also helps his father watch over the corn and bean crops.
His father is Mr. Federico, who is 44 years old. He did not have the opportunity to finish his education since he only studied until 6th grade. He is a responsible father who works hard as a tailor in a factory in Guatemala City. His mother is Mrs. Hermelinda, who is 46 years old. She is a housewife, but a few times when she has the opportunity, she works sewing huipiles, but she does it on her own, which means that this is not a permanent job; however, she does it with the desire to help her family financially. Cristian has four siblings, but the older one is already married; only three of them are living in the same house. Abner is 21 years old and has already graduated and is working as a cook in a hotel with the desire to overcome and also help his family financially. Edwin is 14 and is in 8th grade in a public school, and Adelin Alejandra is 12 years old and is in 7th grade. They as a family try to help each other.
The house where they live is made with block and sheet metal and belongs to Mr. Federico’s parents. It has two bedrooms and a small kitchen. They have 3 beds, one of them is in poor condition, and 3 wardrobes in regular condition. They have a table and 6 plastic benches. For cooking, they use an eco-stove. Both parents want the best for their kids, and they overcome so that they have a better future, since they did not have the opportunity to finish their education
