Grace, My Story

Nairobi, March 27, 2008

Pastor Euticauls

My name is Grace Wangare Mwangangi. I was born on 16th February 1980 in Korogocho slums, Nairobi-Kenya. I am the second born in a family of 8. I am married and God has blessed us this past November with a baby boy.

As a little girl, I joined a school in the Slums called Korogocho primary where I was a pupil for 8 years after which I qualified to join a government High school and while in form two in 1997 I prayed to accept Jesus Christ as my personal savior.

After finishing high though with so much difficulties I could not join college because my parents were unable to pay my tuition at the same time paying for my brothers and sisters. It was always my dream to join college but the Lord did not allow that to happen.

When I got back from school I joined High ridge Baptist Church where I was actively involved in teaching children’s Sunday school and from that time I felt the Lord was calling me to the ministry of children, I also play and played keyboard for our church.

About 7 years ago I joined Kariobangi Baptist Youth Centre as a volunteer Kindergarten teacher when the centre started a baby care which has grown to this day to a full pledged primary school, as well as serving as a teacher I had the an added responsibility to help the children supported by A.O.J in letter writing, counseling, and doing after school programs which has boosted my understanding of children and the potential they have if helped to realize who they are and how God can use them to change their own world and especially the slums where these children come from.

Through this, God has confirmed to me that he has called me to minister to children, young adults and most disadvantaged people in the society. Please pray for that this passion will be in through out my life.

I have had many challenges at home and work but I have seen positive change in children’s children life here at the center, Our lives have been greatly changed in so many ways, I have been molded spiritually through the Morning Devotion that we attend every morning together with the students who are doing their Trade skills here and its through this experience that I have been able to deal with young ones and love them more.

I have been inspired and will to continue working here at the center together with others if this is God’s perfect will so that I can continue to help make a difference in the lives of the locals who pass through tough times i.e. lack of food, poor shelters, poor sanitation, girl rape for young girls, lack of tuition fee and proper education’s, most of them living with HIV Aids and many more short comings.

Prayer request
1. Pray for my parents to re-unite; they separated four years ago and my siblings and I desire for their re-union.
2. Pray for our baby who is sick for God to heal him completely.
3. My desire is to join a community-based college; please pray that this will be possible at some time.
4. Continue to pray for Pastors Euticauls and David Kiatu for God to bless them as they continue expanding His Kingdom work in the slums of Korogocho and help improve the lives of many children who otherwise would be in the street or living in the dump.
